Assistant Accountant

Role purpose

LoQus23 are looking for an enthusiastic and productive Assistant Accountant reporting to the Finance Director in this growing Biotech.

It is a broad role, that will encompass the daily bookkeeping through to production of Trial Balance and Management reports and offers the opportunity to experience the entire accounts process.

The role requires accuracy, strong organisation and the ability to work in a confident and timely manner.

Key responsibilities

  • Accurately maintain the purchase ledger and regular review of outstanding items, including supplier account statements.
  •  Monthly Reconciliation of Credit cards and expenses.
  • Preparation of VAT returns for review.
  • Prepare and support supplier payment runs, ensuring invoices are paid in-line with agreed terms and internal authorisation processes.
  • Post daily bank transactions and completed bank reconciliations.
  • Reviewing ledger balances and providing analysis for the Finance Director.
  • Support preparation of the month-end process to Trial Balance including accruals, prepayments, fixed assets register, ad hoc journals and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Assist with production of management accounts within 10 working days.
  • Communicate with internal teams to obtain missing information, resolve invoice queries and support compliance with finance processes.
  • Assist with annual audit, preparation of year-end schedules and the provision of supporting documentation as required.
  • Provide general finance administration and support the Finance Director with ad hoc tasks and process improvements.

Skills and experience required

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience, preferably with some in the Biotech field.
  • Completion of month-end processes and management accounts.
  • Experience in purchase ledger maintenance from purchase order process to supplier reconciliations and payments.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Excel and preferably XERO accounting systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to liaise effectively with colleagues at all levels.
  • Able to manage deadlines and workload in a busy finance environment.
  • Part-qualified CIMA, ACCA or ACA.

Permanent Contract Part Time – 2-3 days per week (16-24 hours)
Hybrid Working – At least one day per week in our offices at Granta Park, Cambridge
Holiday – 25 days pro rata
Report to – Finance Director
